By Marcus Cruz ⋅ Published on October 23, 2023
Whether you are new to the scene of social media or have been hip since Vine, the basics of social media content are always going to be the same.
What is Content Creation?
Content creation is exactly what it sounds like — the process of creating content and uploading it to your desired social media platform.
Nowadays, there are various ways to make content. From TikTok dancers to Instagram fashion bloggers, the goal of all creators/influencers remains the same; create and post content for the world to see.
Why is Content Creation Important?
Content creation is essential for not only individuals who are seeking traction but for businesses and companies as well. The goal for content creators is to build a community behind their specific niche. Content creation allows each individual brand to showcase its products or talents to the world, gaining awareness from every eye that sees its content.
How To Start Creating Content in These 10 Easy Steps!
Creating content may one of the easiest things that you can do and you do not need to be super tech saavy either! Here’s how to create content in these simple steps:
1. Do Your Research
2. Set Personal Goals
3. Find Your Platform(s)
4. Brainstorm Ideas
5. Creating
6. Editing
7. Schedule & Publishing
8. Analyzing Your Results
9. Interacting with Followers
10. Moving Forward
Step #1: Do Your Research
Take a look at your current FYP (for you page) and determine what you love about your feed.
You can take notes from other content creators and figure out what kind of content you want to create. Ask yourself, can you see yourself creating content in a similar fashion or do you want to try and do something unique?
There any many things you can make content about — you just need to figure out what fits your style!
Step #2: Set Personal Goals
After you have determined the type of content you want to create, it is imperative that you create goals for yourself. Without a set of clear goals, you will find yourself aimlessly searching for things to do on the internet.
By creating goals, you can build a foundation of your content strategy and how you will approach using social media platforms to showcase your content creation abilities. Using SMART goals may be something that you can use to help elevate your content and things in your everyday life!

Step #3: Find Your Platform(s)
While keeping in mind the content you want to make, there may be specific platforms that fit your niche.
For example, if you want to create short 30 second videos or reels, you may find that TikTok and Instagram reels may be your best fit. Or maybe you want to show off your creative style through pictures on Pinterest.
Either way, knowing your target audience and creating content on the right platform can be the difference in the traction you get.
Here are some of the top social media platforms that you may want to use:
TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest
Step #4: Brainstorm Ideas
Before going right into creating content, it is a good idea to lay out a schedule of what you want to post. By doing this, you not only create a schedule that you can follow for the future, but you give yourself ample time to create/edit just in case things do not go to plan.
What happens when you come across a speed bump and can’t think of what to make or post?
That research that we did in step #1 allows us to create a clear guideline for consistenly creating posts and steers us away from any problems we may encounter in the future.
Step #5: Creating
Now here comes the fun part. CREATING CONTENT. This is what you are here for! Creating content should be happy, fun, and exciting. Take the time to perfect your content. There is always time to reshoot, refilm, or re-write if you need.
Remember, there is NO rush to this. Your content is what you put into it. Take your time and just do what you love!
You can now bring your visions to life and show the world what you are capable of.
Step #6: Editing
After you have taken time to create the content and shoot what you needed to do, now comes the more tedious part of content creation; editing. Most editing can be done in the platform that you choose to use, however, it may be a good idea to use 3rd party editing apps because of the tools that are provided. Majority of editing can be done at the use of your own phone!
The art of editing is a magiacal thing. You can edit just about anything if you learn how to do it. Learning how to edit photos, videos, and other projects is what is going to help separate you from other creators.
Step #7: Schedule & Posting
Learning how to schedule and post may sound simple and easy. But contrary to belief, there are certain times and certain days that get more engagement than others. According to ama.org, “The best time to post on Instagram is between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday, and at 11 a.m. on Monday through Friday”. Obviously this is subjective to different creators and what platforms you use, but it is always a good idea to keep this in mind.
Many users do not know that you can schedule a post so that the social media platform can do it for you. Why is this helpful? Well, for one, it avoids the fact that you may forget to post on time! I know it sounds silly but we get so caught up in our everyday lives that we lose track of time. By doing this, we eliminate any possible chances of forgetting to post.
Step #8: Analyzing Your Results
If you are active on social media, you may have seen insights on your posts, which show you how many likes, comments, sends, and other engagement numbers that you receive. All content creators need to be aware of this feature so that you may follow and track your engagement numbers with your viewers.
Why is your results so important? Well, in order to see progress, you need to track how well your numbers are doing. For example, if you see that you get the most follower engagement on Thursday and Friday afternoons rather than on a Monday morning, you are going to start posting more content later in the week. Being able to be flexible around trends is a skill that all creators need to learn.
In the end, you need to know whether you’re reaching your target audience or not. If you are, great! You must be doing something right. If you aren’t, why? Is it the days and the time you posts? Is it because your lack of hashtags? Or is it your content? All these questions can be answered just by doing daily insight checkups that can differentiate you from others.
Step #9: Interacting with Followers
The math is simple. Follower interaction + good content = engagement. Follower interaction is important because of how personal the connection is between the creator and viewer. If you can create an enviornment for your followers that allow them to feel apart of you and your life, you are looking at follower engagement like no other.
To create an enviornment for your followers, you must interact with them directly through comments and shoutouts. Many creators hold giveaways or challenges, which attracts new followers — giving the creator more of an opportunity to reach larger audiences.
Step #10: Moving Forward
Your journey as a content creator will only continue to grow as long as you are consistent. In other words, the more that you continue to post and interact with your followers, the more you will see that creating content is worth your time!
The most important thing of course, is to remember why you are doing it in the first place. Although it may be stressful at times, your passion for creating content is what is going to drive you to continue.
You are your own boss and you operate on your own time. Make the most of your work, time, and life and in the end, you will be happy with where you are.
